Liberal: Favoring proposals for reform, open to new ideas for progress, and tolerant of the tideas and behaviors of others; broad minded.

Conservative: Favoring traditional views and values; tending to oppose change.

The topic of the quote that I found both on Cnn.com and Foxnews.com deals with the new proposed health care reform for the United States. I found that CNN seemed to have a liberal point of view on this subject.
http://www.cnn.com/2009/POLITICS/11/19/health.care.bill/index.html. The sixth paragraph is a quote from President Barack Obama stating that " 'From day one, our goal has been to enact legislation that offers stablity and security to those that have insurance and affordable coverage for those who don't, and that lowers cost for families, businesses and governments accross the country'. Obama said in a statement, adding that the Senate proposal "meets those principles.' " In my opinion this is a liberalistic quote from the CNN article. CNN included all of the quote from Obama which promotes the new Health Care Reform meaning they are open for change.

When I entered Foxnews and searched for an article dealing with the Health Reform debate, they seemed very conservative.
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/11/19/senate-health-price-tag-rosy-deficit-estimate-assailed-fantasy/ . Right away I could tell that this was going to be a convervative opinionated article. They articulated that the new health care reform bill was a "fantasy". The health care reform bill is just what its called; a change in Americas health care. By calling the bill a fantasy, it illustrates the oposition to change.

I consider my self to a Liberal. In my opoinion, a liberal is someone who is open to change and respects the way other people choose to live their lives. For examples, the recent Gay marriage debate here in California, I found my self wanting to vote no on prop 8, even though Im not old enough to vote. I believe that people should be able to marry who ever they want to marry. Who is to say that someone can not marry the person they love? Also,in the recent Presidential elections, I favored Obama over McCain to become our new president. I agree with much of Obamas views, which most of deal with change. His campaign was centered around the fact that he would bring change to America, which is something that was greatly needed due to the last presidency.

In the short story "The Lottery" by Shirly Jackson, the authors intention is to show the readers that life may not always turn out as we expect or perceive it. Many people such as children, believe that the world is a friendly place. However, the occurrence of a tragic event can break down the wall of a naive and innocent person. This is evident in the short story "Flowers" by Alice Walker. In the story, the main character was enjoying her summer until she stumbled upon a human skeleton. It was evident to the young girl that the once living person had been lynched from the above tree. This event greatly impacted her because it opened her eyes to the real world. In the real world, the loss of innocence can be seen everywhere, such as in the Middle East. Many of the children who live in the war zone countries may have never had the experience of hearing bombs going off, people being killed, and houses being raided. If Jackson had written this narrative as an expository piece, it would not have the same effect as a fictional piece of work. Having written this as a fictional piece of work, readers can connect and understand her point more personally .

My Little Cousin Is Not A Normal Kid, Shes A Chipmunk, A Chipmunk Who's Chugged An Energy Drink In Five Seconds. She Runs Up To Me Every Time She Sees Me Attempting To Climb On Me, Just As A Chipmunk Does When It Sees A Tree Full Of Acorns. She Can Talk For Days In Her High Pitched Voice. I Swear She Could Be One Of Those Cartoon Chipmunks That You Watch On Saturday Morning. At Times I Even Think That She's Sucked The Helium Out Of A Balloon. She Grabs Food And Saves IT. She Wont Eat It Until Shes Really Hungry And When Shes Running Low On Energy. As Soon As She Starts Running Empty, She Goes Off To Her Stash And What Do You Know, Shes Scurrying Around The House. Dont Get Me Wrong, I Love That Little Girl More Than Anyone Can Imagine. She's Not Just Any Chipmunk, Shes My Chipmunk And Even Though It Hurts To Get Climbed On By A Four Year Old, I Wouldn't Change Her For Any Other Normal Kid.

September Blog #2

So For Our Second Blog In September, We Were Told To Look Through The Freshman's Blogs. As I Was Going Through The Blogs, The One That Stood Out The Most Was Virginia Woolf's Blog. I'm Choosing To Review This Blog Because Of Their Blog Post. Aside From Being Visually Appealing By Having A Banner Of The Beatles, The Blog Post Are Very Strong. In My Opinion, Woolf's Strenght Is Her Writing. Her Use Of Strong Vocabulary Shows That She Knows What Shes Doing. My Favorite Blog Post Is The Emo Kids Blog. The Way She Writes Her Blog Clearly Illustrates Her Stance On Stereotyping. One Question I Have For Woolf, Is , How Did You Make That Banner? I'd Like To Find Out Try To Make One For My Blog. I Don't Think There's Anything Woolf Needs To Improve On.

September blog #1

Before Anabells mother began her battle, she was always quiet and some what blended in with her friends. She never felt like she had any real friends. Real friends wouldn't leave you out when other people were around. Real friends wouldn't whisper your name around, telling the whole world your secrets. But after Anabells mother lost her battle to fast spreading monster, she had no toher choice but to be "friends" with those girls. She was afraid of being alone, of being an outcast, of being a loner. She felt trapped and held back. Held back from her own self. Her mother had already left, and it was as if her father were gone to in his drunken tirades aimed at Anabell and later pass out where ever he was. His best friend was the bathroom floor.
But one day, her fear subsided when she met a new person. She wore a bright yellow dress with worn out shoes. One green sock on the left foot and a blue on the right. Her hair was red a tomatoe an she had tight curls that didn't go past the middle of her neck, the kind that look like pigtales. As she enterd the room, the class stayed silent until one boy made a rude remark "Hey when did they let clowns come to school!?" The class roared with laughter with the exception of Anabell.
She found nothing funny. Instead she found the girls with the bright red hair, interesting . Anabell found her odd but in almost an envious way. Anabell had always wanted to wear clothes that no one else had worn. She wanted to wear her off red skirt that almost touched the floor that her mother had made her. She wanted to wear red stockings with black boots.
Anabells attention was quickly diverted to the teacher when she informed her that she would be showing Clarice around school.
Anabell was filled with silent excitment when she heard that. She wanted to get to know Clarice. Get to know how she could wear the clothes she wore, and not let peoples side line remarks effect her.
Class passed by and it was finally lunch. Anabell waited for Clarice outside the classroom to avoid the congestion at the front of the class. As Anabell was going to say to Clarice, Clarice quickly said hi to her with a big grin on her face. Anabell asked her " Why do you wear your clothes like that? Why dont you wear what every one else is wearing. Clarice replied "Well Im not everyone else, Im me. I want to wear what I want to wear. Im the one who dressed my self in the morning." Anabell thought to her self and realized she had a good point. Anabell quickly added " And don't you care about what people, what your friends, think of you, being dressed like that? You're not worried that they'll make fun of you?" Clarice answered her question with "No why would I? If my friends made fun of me, then they wouldnt be my friends, they'd be just people I see, they wouldn't have an impact on me". Anabell found everything she had to say facinating. It all made sence of course but that logic had never crossed her mind. She was always trying to think the way her "friends" thought.
The next day Clarice didn't come to school. Or the next day or the next week for that matter. She never came back.
But every remark that she had made had stuck with Anabell. She began drifting away from her "friends" and started dressing different. She would wear mismatching clothes, the opposite of everyone else.
A big dance was coming up at her school and she had been stressing about even before she met Clarice. She was stressing about what she would wear and who she would go with. However, she put the dance on the backburner and delt with it last minute. She knew exactly what she would wear and who she would go with and how she should act around the other kids.
She wore her red stockings and her long skit that her mother had made her. She was going to be herself, the real her, not what everyone else had seen. Not the mask she had been wearing.
At the dance she let go of her inhibitions, she danced. She was finally her self.

So this is my first time writing on a blog. Kind of exciting and therapeutic to be able to write down your thoughts and feelings. I currently feel proud. Proud to have a child that has dreams, goals and aspirations to be someone that can make a difference. Not only in her community but in other people's lives. It gives the feeling that I did something right. That I did my job as a parent and that I inspired her to pursue her dreams of attending a university and obtaining a degree.

I myself had dreams as a teenager. I used to dream of becoming a nurse or maybe even a doctor. I always excelled in school. I was always in the top of my class and was always praised by my teachers. I knew I had the capability of following my dreams but I came from a broken home. My mother worked long days and was not always there to push me to follow my dream. It wasn't that she didn't care but she herself only completed middle school, which is typical in the Mexican culture. She just didn't know of all the opportunities that were out there for me or how to go about obtaining them.

Aside from not having a supportive family, I made some decisions that completely changed my life and that veered me farther away from my dream. I became a statistic. I became a teenage mother. I made the choice to become a teenage mom and I don't regret it one bit. I am truly blessed to be the mother of 2 great children and have dedicated my life to them. As soon as they were born I decided that I would do everything within my power to instill in them that they can be anything they want to be. I made a vow to myself that I would support them in any way possible and open their eyes to all of the possibilities that were out there for them and to help them fulfill their dreams.

Seeing my daughter have dreams and goals give me a great sens of accomplishment. A sense that all of my sacrifices have not been in vain. Witnessing my daughter have goals and follow her dreams makes me the proudest mom in the world.

August blog #3

http://videos.antville.org/
In searching for a blog that I found interesting and cool, I came upon a blog that discovers the next best upcoming talent by letting people post videos. This is sounds similar to YouTube, but the difference is that this video sharing blog only allows music video posts. The purpose of this blog is to allow people to upload videos of what they think are remarkable musicians with remarkable music. This creates a mecca for upcoming musical stars. The speaker of this blog is its members who post videos. The speakers do not have ethos for two reasons. One, the information of the members who post videos isn't given, therefore their credibility isn't known. Also, the speakers lack ethos because what they think is good music, might be the worst music ever heard to another person. The audience is composed of people who are interested in new music talents, or people who just would to listen to something new. One thing I like about this blog is that it only allows music. It's some what painstaking to find music on other video sharing websites because they're not devoted to music like this blog is. I also like how it has direct links to where the video originated from. If descriptions were to be added to the videos, it would make it easier in regards to finding a video someone would think they would like. One thing that this blog has that I would like to assimilate into my blog is the calender it has at the bottom.

August Blog # 1

Three ways Mitt Romney uses the Aristotelian appeal, pathos, in his presidential ad campaign are appealing to family, money and patriotism. Romney appeals to family towards the end of the video when he is seen with his wife. This appeals to families because it shows that he is married and values his wife which makes him admirable. The second appeal he uses in his ad campaign is patriotism. When Romney first begins to speak, the is an American flag behind him. This shows that he is proud of his country and by being proud of his country. The last type of pathos he uses is appealing to money. In his campaign ad Romney states "I believe the American People are being over taxed...I believe we're spending to much money and that's got to stop" . By stating that the American people are being over taxed it insinuates that if elected president, he will stop over taxation. This is especially important to the people at this time because of the current economy and everyone wanting to save money.

Through out the video, Romney is always at eye level to people, and never towering. By using this type of camera angle, it portrays that Romney is equal to the people, and not just another power hungry politician. However, at 11 seconds, there is a shot of Mitt Romney taken from below him . By adding this single picture it portrays him as a strong person because the angle. But by only having one frame like this, he doesn't seem to dominant. Also, when Romney is speaking to the public and they begin clapping, the shot moves to the audience making the viewer see his audience. Towards the end of the video, Mitt Romney's name is shown in white with a black background. Following this shot is Mitt Romney speaking. Then the words "Stong.New.Leadership.", again in white font with a solid black background. The last shot of this kind, being the white font and solid black background, simply says "Mitt Romney. President." By having the words in white and the background in black, it attracts the eye to the white and what the saying is. Also, by having a period at the end of each word, it makes it simple and straight to the point. The point being Mitt Romney is a strong new leader and should be voted the next president of the United States.

One very important symbol in this presidential campaign video is at 11 seconds when Mitt Romney is standing, and the word "Executive" is above him. This symbol is used to show how it might be when he is president. It is also used to show his desire to become president. By showing his desire to become president , it convinces the voter to vote for Mitt Romney for President.
